Who we are
B&K Hume Groundworks Ltd is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We are a groundworks and civil engineering contractor based at Station House, Greenlaw, TD10 6XE.
If you have any question about this policy or about how we handle your information, email office@bkhume.co.uk or call 01361 810298.
What we collect
We collect very little. Specifically:
- Information you give us directly. If you call or email us about a job, we hold whatever you tell us — typically your name, phone number, email address, the address of the site and a description of the work.
- Analytics information. If you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics 4 collects information about how you use the site: pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. This is not collected unless you accept it.
- Technical information. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP addresses, as a necessary part of running and securing the site.
We do not ask for or knowingly collect special category data, and there is no enquiry form or account system on this site.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To quote for and carry out work — our legitimate interests in responding to an enquiry you made, and, once work is agreed, performance of our contract with you.
- To understand how the site is used — your consent, given through the cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.
- To meet our legal and accounting obligations — compliance with a legal obligation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for marketing. We do use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Our website host, which serves this site and keeps server logs.
- Google, for Google Analytics and for the embedded map on our contact page. Both are loaded only after you accept analytics cookies. Google may process this data outside the UK; where it does, transfers are covered by the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
- Our email provider and accountants, where your enquiry becomes a quotation or an invoice.
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become work are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Records relating to work we have carried out are kept for six years from the end of the job, so that we can deal with any contractual or warranty question and meet our accounting obligations. Analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in our Google Analytics configuration.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Ask us to delete information, where we have no continuing reason to keep it.
- Ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it on the basis of legitimate interests.
- Ask us to transfer information you gave us to another provider, where that is technically possible.
- Withdraw your consent to analytics cookies at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these, email office@bkhume.co.uk. We will respond within one month. There is no charge unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies
Cookies and similar technologies are covered separately in our cookie policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top. This version was published on 18 September 2026.
